E.T. and Swamp Coolers

That blog title just forced my brain to picture E.T. hiding inside of my swamp cooler so now I'm going to have issues. But whatever.

I would just like to say that I am obsessed with the song "E.T." by Katy Perry and I don't care who knows it.

...But NOT the version with Kanye West, because he is a dirty vulgar fool.

...And the video is creepy and there is a naked butt at the end.

...But I still love the song.

...Despite this:

Sorry. I could write a whole blog post about that song and video, but then I wouldn't be able to call it "E.T. and Swamp Coolers" so I guess I've made my choice.

I am an awesome swamp cooler technitian and yes that is something to be jealous of and no it is not white trash sounding at all. It is also obviously opposite day.

I moved into a little old house in provo.... which I adore when the mutant bees aren't trying to kill me and as long as I never get trapped in the death sauna also known as the loft. And don't you worry your little face, I pay less in utilities here during the summer than I ever did while living in the wonderful Aretta Gardens. I think this has a lot to do with the heat-sucking loft and our trusty old swamp cooler. Sometimes I wonder if the swamp cooler is actually just blowing mold particles into our 80 year old living space, but then I force myself not to think about it and everything's cool.

The one problem with the swamp cooler, let us call him swampy.... is that he leaks water alllllll over the back porch if the water pressure from the outside faucet hook up is not calibrated just so. And when I say he leaks water, what I really mean is that a pond forms on the uneven concrete of our back porch. And when I say "pond" I mean a legitimate pond with worms and algae. Not acceptable.

So, I routinely have to adjust the water pressure and place preventative flower pots and planters under the swamp cooler to catch any rogue drips and drops. I also have to open a giant, heavy hatch on the side of swampy and peek inside to check the water level to make sure there is enough to keep it cooling. Sometimes I wish I had never seen the inside. It's ugly in there. And now every time I open it I am going to be scared of seeing this:

Which would be my very worst nightmare.

The end.

job fails - You So Silly
see more Monday Through Friday

I really don't think I could love this any more than I already do.

Several Matters of Business

1. Someone hacked my debit card account .... and tried to buy vitamins with it online for $20.99. What the crap? You couldn't think of anything cooler or more expensive to buy with my money? It didn't go through, because you were owned by the fraud department at Zions Bank, but still. Vitamins?

....

Actually... after some research... the site it was purchased on is some crazy spyware/malware situation. Whatever. I just want to picture some dumbdumb trying to buy expensive vitamins.

2. I neeeeeeeed to buy a car but I don't like the idea of getting a car loan. If anyone knows someone who needs to get rid of an old nasty car .... I will take it off your hands. As long as it runs. And if it's free....

3. I started working full time again and woooweeee it is slooooooow in our office. It's killing me.

4. I went running this morning. It was sad. I stopped after a half of a mile. I'm super out of shape... but can I just say that the first time I EVER went running I didn't even make it two blocks? A half a mile is six blocks my friend. Okay today I ran five. Whatever.

Skunkard's Eulogy

Skunkard was born in Japan. He immigrated to the United States in 1984 where he lived a long fulfilling life. First owned by Grandpa Booth, he was ceremoniously handed down through the Booth Family dynasty through Brion Booth to his last frequent driver, Kristin Booth. He is survived by 3 other Booth family vehicles, and preceded in death by the Station Wagon, The Stinky Car, and Brown Datsun. Skunkard was a good truck. I can't say he wasn't a quitter, because he gave up every 5 or so years toward the end of his life. Time after time, Papa Booth refused to accept Skunkard's resignation, and after much mechanical reluctance Skunkard would resume his duties as a small nasty truck. Skunkard, you will be missed. I cried when you died. I will remember fondly the times we had together, and I will especially miss the way precipitation leaked through every fiber of your being. Rest in peace, nasty-nast. I hope you enjoy that big dump in the sky, where you will eternally be carting leaves and branches back and forth for eternity. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.

HanukKristin ... Kristinkkah.... Hanukkristinkah... can't decide.

My birthday was on a Monday this year, and everyone knows that mondays suck. So I decided to have a birthday weekend instead. Genius, I know. I don't know why more people don't morph their birthdays into Hanukkah-like celebrations. Multiple days of presents, multiple birthday dinners, its like I turned 24 four times this year. I'm going to venture to say that this has been the best birthday season of my life. It makes me wish I could remember every birthday I've ever had. I'm about to give you a run down of my hanukkristinkah weekend. Try not to weep out of jealous rage. You know.. tears of anger. (Does anyone else cry when they are mad? Or is that just me...) I think "Tears of Anger" would be a super lame band name. Oh wait:

Anyway. On with Hanukristinkuh.
Friday, May 13th.

Work wasn't particularly taxing on Friday. When I got home from work, I didn't really have a game plan. I was experiencing a major devastation hang-over on account of something not working out with a boy (ya, lame) and I just reallllly wanted to come home to Kaysville. My mom was planning on going to Salt Lake anyway that day so we planned for her to swing down and pick me up after running some errands. Oh wait, except the van decided to nearly croak in Murray. So. I decided to take my chances driving up to kaysville in le skunk truck. My general rule is that I never put it into 5th gear, let alone intentionally drive it on the freeway, but I was absolutely desperate to get home. I took state street for as long as I could but I couldn't avoid the point of the mountain. I started at the bottom of the hill going 70 ish... and by the time I got to the top I was going 55 with my petal to the metal and a prayer in my heart. I met up with mama Booth at costco in Murray. It had taken me an hour and a half to get packed and then get to Murray from Provo. When I pulled up next to her, she was washing (yes, washing) the van in the Costco parking lot with a water bottle. Bless her heart. She was so bored waiting for me. I drove behind her the rest of the way to Kaysville and luckily we both survived.

Once we got home, I decided that my birthday weekend celebration needed to start immediately to get me out of the bummer of a mood I was in. Mama Booth was all too happy to get started. So. We met up with Nicole in Brigham City for a birthday dinner at Maddox Ranch House. Holy freaking yummy. After dinner at the restaurant, we opened some presents outside at a picnic table because it was soooo warm and nice outside.

On Friday night I got:
  • Jane Eyre, A Christmas Carol, and Sense and Sensibility (the cutie bum penguin classics)
  • A cover for my cell phone
  • A pandora charm bracelet
  • Annnnd my memory is escaping me. Moving on.
Saturday, May 14th

Saturday morning I woke up early because I thought we were going to go boating, but mother flippin nature decided it would be a better idea to get crazy windy. So. Dad worked on the boat (just tinkering... etc.) And I hung out with my mom all day. We drove back down to salt lake to exchange my bracelet because it was too small. The sales-ladies at the jewelery store were wenches.... and they made me nervous... so we exchanged my too-small bracelet for one that was entirely too big. I didn't notice at the time because I was excited to get out of there.

We ate lunch at Panda Express and then made our way back to k-town. I took a nice long birthday-weekend nap, and when I woke up my dad and I took the boat out to drive around. It was too late and still kind of cold so we didn't get in the water, but it was nice to go play outside. When we got home from boating, my mom had decorated our house for my birthday and wrapped MORE presents for me to open.
Saturday night I got:
  • Fishing tackle from my dad
  • A cute bamboo grass mat
  • a HUGE citronella candle (to ward off the evil bees)
  • candle lighters
  • a tool box/bag
Sunday, May 15th

I woke up early and went to chuch at my parents' family ward in kaysville. The single's ward creeps me RIGHT out.. because it basically consists of me trying to avoid all the people I didn't like in high school who for some reason are still living in their parents' basement. (No offense to the davis park ward. Actually, offense. I don't care.)

Church was wonderful and I got to chat with all the cute relief society ladies who always get so excited when a grown-up child of a ward member comes to visit.

After church I took another ridiculously long nap. When I woke up, Mama Booth had made pizza and decided to whip up a chocolate cake with raspberry filling from scratch. She is such a birthday wizard. We ate yummy pizza and food and just generally enjoyed day 3 of my birthday weekend.

Monday, May 16th

I went to work on Monday morning and it was fabulous. I love the independent study office. My bff work-friend Brittany made an AMAZING birthday card, which everyone in the office signed.

It made my life so happy! Mama Booth came down to provo to give me my finally right-sized bracelet and drove me down to campus so I wouldn't have to walk to class from work. Once class was over I met up with Sammy Sam to go pick up Brittany (not the same as the work-friend) from the airport. We got there right as she was ready to be picked up. From the airport we went to the always-delicious cheesecake factory for ANOTHER birthday dinner. It was soooo yummy and we didn't even have to wait for a table, which was fortunate, because nothing sends me into a murderous rage faster than being told I'm going to have to wait 80 minutes for a table at the Cheesecake Factory.

Sam and Brittany are my bffs and going out to eat is one of our favorite things to do. The birthday dinner did not disappoint. Afterwards we went home to my old appartment and just chilled for the rest of the night. Sam gave me a wonderful turquoise-blue dream catcher, and Brittany gave me the perfume version of my new favorite bath and bodyworks smell for my birthday.

AND THEN. When I got home to my apartment my mom had filled my window well with flowers and left me a card on my bed.

And my roommates gave me a card. And a barnes and noble gift card. And made a happy birhtday sign. And sculpted a pony out of icecream and candy in honor of my birth.

BEST. BIRTHDAY. EVER.

The moral of the story is:

My family is the bomb.
My friends are the bomb.
My roommates are the bomb.
Hanukristinkah was an enormous success.
And I will never have a singular birth "day" ever again.

THE END.

Raise Your Hand If You Want To See a Huge-A Bee

So, I moved into a little old house the other day. It is adorable. It's old, but not nasty. And the ceilings are really high and we have a back porch and a loft and it has just been an absolute DREAM. However, our neighbors have a really old, haunted-looking, foliage-covered, dead-leaf collecting shed in their back yard, and it is riiiiiight next to our back door. Since the weather has warmed up a little bit, we've noticed that TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA BEES like to hang out around the shed. And periodically, they get into our house. And every so often.... one stows away on my person.

Please. I wish I could have recorded the whole situation. But this is a nice recap, I think:

I've taken to making videos with my phone. Because I can. It comes in handy when I want to document those occurences for which no words would do justice.

After a little research, I am 90% positive they are carptenter bees. Which is perfect. Because I love when enornous menacing insects eat my home.

Oh Hello

This is my neighbor's puppy. It comes to say hi to me every single day when I leave for work. We are secretly best friends. Sometimes I want to steal it. Whatever.
